Get a run-down of the exciting announcements during Memfault’s Q3 2024 Launch Week, where the spotlight was on improving IoT security, simplifying compliance for embedded teams, and deepening partnerships.

This Launch Week was extra exciting for us here at Memfault because we launched our features in-person, for the first time ever, at Embedded World North America in Austin, Texas. It was an action-packed week full of exciting announcements, meetups, and lots of new technologies.

Our product launch announcements were focused on:

Launch Week Celebrations

Take a deeper dive with this full run-down of all the exciting releases we unveiled this week!

1: Memfault Partner Program

We have always spent a lot of time working closely with partners across the ecosystem, from semiconductor manufacturers and technology developers to product designers and system integrators. As a result, we have been able to equip our customers with the most cutting-edge technology that the IoT industry has to offer.

Now, we have announced a brand new Memfault Partner Program, marking an exciting new chapter for Memfault. It’s all about deepening collaboration with industry leaders and offering more value to organizations across our partner ecosystem.

Memfault Partners receive many benefits and gain access to a wealth of resources, including:

  • A brand new Partner Welcome Kit — to help partners hit the ground running and confidently introduce Memfault to their clients from Day 1.
  • Exclusive access to Memfault’s product roadmap — so they can understand where Memfault is headed and how upcoming features can enhance their clients’ development processes.
  • Co-marketing opportunities — to build relationships that extend beyond technology, creating a collaborative platform for mutual growth.

Memfault’s partner ecosystem continues to grow with this new initiative. Thinking about becoming a Memfault partner? It’s fast and easy to get started. Just fill out this form to kick off the process!

2: A New Way to Handle Device Logs

Collecting logs is a big part of firmware development. They can be extremely valuable when it comes to root causing issues in your product. However, it can be extremely tedious and time-consuming to search through logs one file at a time to try to understand what’s happening on your devices, whether they’re crashing, or something else is going on. That’s why we’ve launched a Log Management and Analytics feature set.

With these new capabilities, you can:

  • Search and analyze log data from every device in your fleet from one screen
  • Make correlations on the fly with enriched log data
  • Automatically capture logs from the moments before a device experiences a crash or error

With this feature set, developers can maximize the value of logs they already collect with extra contextual data and better analysis tools. Save days of time investigating issues and turn your logs into a tool for fleet-wide insights.

3: Prepare for Upcoming Security Regulations

New security regulations are about to completely transform the way we develop and deploy devices. And it’s happening right now. With regulations like the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), the EU Data Act, and the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act (PSTI) rolling out—as well as accreditations like the US Cyber Trust Mark—it’s critical for device manufacturers to think about how to incorporate security as a part of their development process.

The Memfault platform already covers several of the core requirements—and we are making key enhancements across our product to make it even better. This week we launched two key components:

  • Attach an SBOM to software versions to make vulnerability identification and reporting easier
  • Detailed OTA Audit Log for total visibility into activity taken in Memfault that will impact devices when you ship critical updates

The regulations are broad-ranging and Memfault doesn’t intend to cover all the requirements. However, our existing solution with these new features and our future plans will significantly lighten the workload for teams working on compliant solutions.

4: Preparing for the EU Data Act

As mentioned above, the EU Data Act has its own set of requirements for IoT device makers. These regulations have significant implications for the design, development, and sale of hardware products.

While Memfault is not a cybersecurity company, our platform is designed to help IoT manufacturers confidently collect data from their devices in a way that simplifies compliance with these regulations, ensuring that customers’ data is handled securely and responsibly. Again, these features won’t get you all the way there, but they will fulfill the core requirements:

  • Access and delete Memfault data related to individual devices
  • Host all your Memfault data locally in the EU

By proactively preparing for these changes, IoT device manufacturers can turn the EU Data Act into an opportunity for growth and innovation, staying ahead of the curve while providing greater value to users.

As always, we want to extend a huge thank you to our customers and for helping us continue to shape Memfault, and to our employees who have been working around the clock to make it all happen.

Until next time!
